"For God All Things Are Possible" Matthew 19:26

With the message of HOPE, young people from across the Fall River Diocese gathered in Attleboro, Massachusetts on Saturday, July 20th. After uniting in peace-filled prayer to spiritually support women frightened by the child developing in their womb, they came to St. Vincent de Paul parish for nourishment.
First, the young adults participated in Holy Mass celebrated by Fr. Riley Williams.
Then, high school and college-aged young people gathered in the parish hall.
They were served a hot buffet breakfast.

The breakfast was prepared by devoted members of Body of Christ.
Friendships were formed.
Hope was celebrated.
Laughter was abundant.
Leadership skills increased.
Opportunities to learn were at every corner.
Young people were heard.
And attentive, caring mentors shared their hearts as they volunteered their time, talent and treasure.
Next year this could be you!

Supporting Women Experiencing Pregnancy and Homelessness

Ordinary people "hearing the call" and responding in extraordinary ways.

On Sunday, July 28th, members of multiple faith communities learned firsthand how the Catholic Church is responding to women who are experiencing both pregnancy and homelessness.

Sherry Robbins, the Visitation House Social Service Manager, shared how the home helps women protect the life of the child in her womb through material, emotional and spiritual support.

Members in attendance also listened to one of the Visitation House guests share her story. Additional educational support may have helped her develop the skills needed to avoid homelessness. However, the Visitation House helped her regain her dignity and her connection to her family of origin. In a few weeks, her new baby will be welcomed into the Catholic Family through baptism. Some members in the audience will witness this Sacramental Celebration.

On Sunday, August 11th at 6:30 p.m. (following the 5:30 Mass) a group will leave SVDP parish to travel to the Visitation House for a tour. At that time, donations will be delivered. All are welcome to join us for the tour and to add donations to the crib located in the church. A wish list is available at the following link: http://visitationhouse.org/wishlist.html

"There is a light in this worlda healing spirit more powerful than any darkness we may encounter. We sometimes lose sight of this force when there is suffering, too much pain. Then suddenly, the spirit will emerge through the lives of ordinary people who hear a call and answer in extraordinary ways." Mother Teresa

Sacred Heart of Jesus Procession

On Saturday, June 29, 2013, the Hispanic Apostolate for the Diocese of Fall River led a procession from Capron Park to St. Vincent de Paul (SVdP) Parish in Attleboro. While reciting the rosary in multiple languages, the community carried a picture of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Five stops were made along the way. At each stop, a mystery of the Joyful Rosary was performed. At the end of the procession, all gathered in the SVdP Parish Church for adoration, followed by a community meal in the parish hall.

Next DOE Information Meeting - Monday, 8 July

Please mark your calendar for our next Day of Evangelization (DOE) Information and Training Evening - Monday, 8 July at 6.45 PM in Holy Ghost Church

More than 50 volunteers participated in our last DOE meeting on June 17th, and more Catholics in the area are getting involved in some capacity every day.  We are looking for a total of 200 volunteers to support the day of evangelization, in either a support or door to door role.  The volunteers can be from our own parish or surrounding parishes. Please ask friends, family and neighbors to get involved. Everyone is welcome! Come to our next meeting and you can learn to sing the D2D song that’s getting everyone excited to participate in a successful event!  We look forward to seeing you!

For more information, please contact Kathy Harum, DOE Contact, via the Parish Office on 508-226-1115.

Want to know more about our DOE logo?  Some quick facts...

  1. The logo is an original design by the wonderfully talented Kathy Harum, our Parish DOE contact.
  2. The commanding presence of the Cross is central to the image and our DOE efforts.
  3. In Kathy’s striking image, the “D2D” command radiates from the heart of the Cross.
  4. The rays emanating from the Cross are white and red – symbolizing, as in Sister Faustina’s image of Divine Mercy, the blood and water which poured forth from “the one whom they had pierced” (Pope Benedict XVI). This beautiful symbolism reminds us of the centrality of Christ in all that we do as Christians.
  5. The core “D2D” message symbolizes the “door-to-door” aspect of the ministry. The connotation of our being sent out in pairs (see Luke 10:1-23) is captured in the use of the numeral “2”. We pray that the Holy Spirit will bless all of our efforts and “send us out” in response to Christ’s command (John 20:21).
  6. The “D2D” message is colored blue to symbolize our Holy Mother, “the first Disciple of her Son” (Pope John Paul II), in whose footsteps we aspire to follow.
  7. The core reason for our DOE efforts is summarized in the “Door to Door for Christ” message at the bottom of Kathy’s image. As Father Riley has commented, this is our response to the Great Commission, “Go, make disciples of all nations” (Matthew 28:19).
