HOLYDAY OF THE IMMACULATE CONCEPTION:
December 8 is the Holyday of Obligation of the Immaculate Conception (the day when we celebrate when the Blessed Mother was conceived by Sts. Anne and Joachim, but without original sin touching her soul - that's why she is called the Immaculate Conception. This is not to be confused with the Annunciation, when Mary conceived Jesus by the overshadowing of the Holy Spirit). Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception is the patroness of the United States. Our Masses will be:

Vigil - Monday, Dec. 7
5:30 pm - Portuguese Mass
7:10 pm - English Mass
(there will also be Masses at St. John's at 4:25 and 6:45 pm)

Tuesday, Dec. 8
9 am - English Mass
5:30 pm - Spanish Mass
7 pm - English Mass
We will then have Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament in church until 12 midnight as part to the National Night of Prayer for Life. Please come by for a while to pray for our country. (Tuesday there will be Masses at St. John's at 7 am, 8 am, 4:25 and 5:55 pm).

Our Lady Undoer of Knots Novena

The Legion of Mary will begin a 54 day novena to Our Lady Undoer of Knots beginning on August 15th running to October 7th.  The Novena will be prayed after the 9:00 a.m. Mass at St. Vincent de Paul. All are welcome and encouraged to join us for this powerful Novena.

We all have some “knots” in our lives… and Mary can untie them!  The theology of the devotion actually goes back to the second century. Saint Irenaeus wrote that, “The knot of Eve’s disobedience was untied by the obedience of Mary; what the virgin Eve bound by her unbelief, the Virgin Mary loosened by her faith.”   Mary’s faith unties the knot of sin!

Daily mediations will be available at the doors of St. Vincent’s; see link for online mediations: http://www.praymorenovenas.com/mary-undoer-knots-novena/#ixzz3iQcEa9YF

Prayer to Our Lady Undoer of Knots:

Virgin Mary, Mother of fair love, Mother who never refuses to come to the aid of a child in need, Mother whose hands never cease to serve your beloved children because they are moved by the divine love and immense mercy that exist in your heart, cast your compassionate eyes upon me and see the snarl of knots that exists in my life.  You know very well how desperate I am, my pain, and how I am bound by these knots. Mary, Mother to whom God entrusted the undoing of the knots in the lives of his children, I entrust into your hands the ribbon of my life. No one, not even the evil one himself, can take it away from your precious care. In your hands there is no knot that cannot be undone. Powerful Mother, by your grace and intercessory power with Your Son and My Liberator, Jesus, take into your hands today this knot.
[Mention your request here]
I beg you to undo it for the glory of God, once for all. You are my hope.
O my Lady, you are the only consolation God gives me, the fortification of my feeble strength, the enrichment of my destitution, and, with Christ, the freedom from my chains.
Hear my plea.
Keep me, guide me, protect me, o safe refuge!

Mary, Undoer of Knots, pray for me.
Amen.

Missionary Cooperative Appeal for "Fe y Alegria" (Faith and Joy) School

On the weekend of August 29-30 the second collection at both Saint John the Evangelist and Saint Vincent de Paul parishes will be for a "Fe y Alegria" (Faith and Joy) School in Zacualpa, in the El Quiche region of Guatemala.

Parishioners who have already used their "Mission Co-op" envelope and would like to make an additional donation, can use a regular envelope and write their name and envelope number on it.

The school carries the name "Ri Nu Tinamit Kuwalsaj Rib" in the Mayan language and the name "Mi pueblo se levanta" (My people arise) in Spanish. This school includes a former parishioner of Fr. Wilson's from New Bedford. They help poor children, especially girls and indigenous children, both of whom are often neglected by Guatemalan public schools, to receive a good education, along with values, self-esteem and nutrition.

The "Fe y Alegria" schools began in Venezuela with the Jesuits and have spread around Latin America. For more information about this school and to visit the "Fe y Algeria" English website, click here

The school's work is described in Spanish on pages 61-90 at the following link, click here.

The videos at the top and bottom of this page are in Spanish and are about Fe y Alegria's work in Guatemala.

Pray for Vocations to the Priesthood

August 4th was the Memorial of St. John Vianney, the patron of diocesan priests. Please ask him in your prayer to help young men to consider a vocation to priesthood.
Studies show that young men oftentimes begin discerning a call to the priesthood when someone asks them if they ever thought of becoming a priest.
If you or someone you know is considering this great call, please speak with Fr. Wilson or Fr. Messias, or contact the Fall River Diocese Vocations Office (www.facebook.com/pages/Fall-River-Vocations-Office/240339229339896).
Please say a prayer for all men discerning the call, especially young men in our parish community.
