Missionary Cooperative Appeal for "Fe y Alegria" (Faith and Joy) School

On the weekend of August 29-30 the second collection at both Saint John the Evangelist and Saint Vincent de Paul parishes will be for a "Fe y Alegria" (Faith and Joy) School in Zacualpa, in the El Quiche region of Guatemala.

Parishioners who have already used their "Mission Co-op" envelope and would like to make an additional donation, can use a regular envelope and write their name and envelope number on it.

The school carries the name "Ri Nu Tinamit Kuwalsaj Rib" in the Mayan language and the name "Mi pueblo se levanta" (My people arise) in Spanish. This school includes a former parishioner of Fr. Wilson's from New Bedford. They help poor children, especially girls and indigenous children, both of whom are often neglected by Guatemalan public schools, to receive a good education, along with values, self-esteem and nutrition.

The "Fe y Alegria" schools began in Venezuela with the Jesuits and have spread around Latin America. For more information about this school and to visit the "Fe y Algeria" English website, click here

The school's work is described in Spanish on pages 61-90 at the following link, click here.
